About me

Dr Menown MB BCh BAO MD MRCP(UK), FRCP(Edin), is Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Interventional Cardiology at the Craigavon Cardiac Centre, Northern Ireland, is current President of the Irish Atherosclerosis Society and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen's University, Belfast. His special interests include general and acute cardiology, chest pain assessment/coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology (angioplasty/stenting), electrophysiology (specifically management of atrial fibrillation), heart failure, cholesterol management and coronary prevention/risk reduction. In addition to a comprehensive acute cardiac care and outpatient service, Dr Menown has undertaken in the top 10% highest volumes of interventional cardiology (stent) cases in the UK.

Dr Menown received his medical degree with distinction from the Queens University of Belfast and trained in Cardiology in Belfast before completing an interventional fellowship at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, BC, Canada. He obtained a postgraduate doctorate of medicine, the Purce medal and JD Williams prize for his research in improving early detection of acute coronary syndromes and has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.

Dr Menown has been elected to serve on European Society of Cardiology expert groups of (i) Thrombosis, (ii) Acute Cardiac Care, (iii) Cardiovascular Pharmacology & Drug Therapy, (iv) Hypertension, and (v) Atherosclerosis & Vascular Biology. He serves as interventional editor-in-chief of Cardiology and Therapy, cardiology editor of Advances in Therapy and is on the editorial board of Interventional Cardiology, Future Cardiology and Biomarkers in Medicine. Dr Menown is frequently invited to lecture at national and international meetings and has published over 110 papers and 150 scientific abstracts in fields including acute coronary syndromes, lipids/cholesterol, cardiovascular risk and percutaneous coronary intervention.
