About me
Nick specialises in gastrointestinal and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. His specialist interests include the treatment of hernias, gallstone disease and gastro-oesophageal reflux surgery.
He qualified from Southampton University in 1987 and undertook his post-graduate surgical training at Guys and St Thomas’ hospitals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and was awarded a Master of Surgery degree by London University for his research into blood flow in the stomach and gastro-intestinal tract and published numerous scientific papers based upon this work. He then undertook advanced laparoscopic training at the Minimal Access Training Unit in Guildford. He was appointed consultant surgeon to Maidstone and Tunbridge in 2000 where he led the centralisation of gastro-oesophageal cancer surgery in Kent for several years.
Nick trained as a general surgeon and therefore sees and treats patients across the whole speciality of general surgical conditions.
However he discontinued cancer surgery in 2008 and his practice is now dedicated to benign upper GI pathology, the laparoscopic treatment of abdominal wall and groin hernias and gallstones. Over the last decade he has developed a particular interest in the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease. He established and leads the first multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with reflux. He founded RefluxUK and now has one of the greatest experiences of the LINX sphincter augmentation device in Europe. In 2017 he left the NHS and now works in full time private practice.
Nick is married to Gabrielle and they have four children. When not working he enjoys cooking, wine, travel and riding horses, competing at a very amateur level as a one day event rider.
