About me

Gavin Robertson was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Leicester in 1999. Having qualified in 1984 he then trained in Centres across the world for 15 years. He developed an expertise in Laparoscopic/keyhole surgery from its inception in 1993. His particular interests are the laparoscopic treatment of gallstones and their complications (over 4500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies performed) ERCP to remove bile duct stones (over 2000) and keyhole surgery to repair abdominal wall hernias with over 5000 procedures carried out, for all sorts of abdominal wall hernias particularly inguinal and incisional.
Other interests include the endoscopic diagnosis and surgical management of acid reflux disease.

Research interests

Mr Robertson has over 50 original papers in peer reviewed journals on pancreatic islet transplantation, the treatment of inoperable liver tumours and laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia surgery.
In addition he has published a variety of book chapters and review articles on these subjects including co-authoring the chapter on Abdominal Wall and Groin hernias in the current 5th edition of Kirkâ€™s General Surgical Operations published in 2006.

Personal interests

Most of Gavinâ€™s spare time is spent with his wife, Claire and three children - Sophie, Charlie and Joe. In his occasional free moments he manages to get to the gym in an effort to combat the ravages of age. He also enjoys waterskiing and windsurfing.
