About me

Dr McCarthy completed her radiology training in Oxford followed by a fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. She is a specialist Musculoskeletal Radiologist with expertise in ultrasound, MRI, CT and image-guided interventional procedures. Her regular practice includes rheumatology, sports imaging, spine, trauma, bone infection, bone and soft tissue tumours and complex orthopaedic conditions. She regularly images elite sports players and leads the regional tumour, rheumatology and foot & ankle clinical-radiological meetings with Oxford's specialist clinicians. Dr McCarthy is an enthusiastic teacher and has been the supervisor for Oxford’s musculoskeletal radiology training program for over 10 years. She is on the faculty of many educational courses and was involved in the integrated training initiative of the Royal College of Radiologists. Dr McCarthy has published widely in international peer reviewed journals and written several book chapters in the field of musculoskeletal radiology. She is regularly invited to lecture at national and international conferences and to peer review articles for a number of journals. Dr McCarthy is a member of the South African, British, European and International Skeletal Societies and sits on the European subcommittees for musculoskeletal ultrasound and tumours.
