About me
Romi Navaratnam trained at Nottingham, Cambridge, London and Sri Lanka before being appointed Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal surgeon at the North Middlesex University Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Medical School in 2002.
He is one of the founding consultants of the gastrointestinal (GI) units at The Wellington Hospital and the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in London. Both institutions are recognised as national and international centres of excellence.
His specialist interests include the investigation and management of common and complex gastrointestinal problems, including altered bowel habit, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), rectal bleeding, haemorrhoids, anal fissures, complex anal fistulae and colorectal (bowel cancer).
He is passionate about endoscopy, colonoscopy and laparoscopic (keyhole) minimally invasive surgery, for benign disease eg appendicitis, gallbladder, hernias, Crohns, diverticular disease and colorectal (bowel cancer).
He has a significant interest in the management of the complex clinical dilemma. He has provided second opinions both at a local and international level.
He is an invited speaker on the investigation and management of IBS, bowel cancer and common conditions of the peri anal region eg haemorrhoids and fistulae.
He is the cancer lead in his NHS hospital and is a member of the London Bowel Cancer pathway board.
He provides regular advice in both a clinical and managerial capacity to both local and international private medical institutions, NHS Trusts and some governments, with regards to the management of key personnel.
His work over the past 16 years as a Consultant surgeon has been associated with very positive outcomes.
