About me

Dr Walker has been working as a Gastroenterology Consultant in Bath since 2013 and is currently the lead for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.

He qualified with distinction from Imperial College London in 2000 and did his gastroenterology training in London on the North West Thames Gastroenterology rotation, working at a number of teaching hospitals including St Mark’s Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, and Charing Cross Hospital. This provided him with excellent training in all aspects of gastroenterology.

Dr Walker subsequently spent three years as a clinical research fellow at Imperial College London studying the role of genetics and gut bacteria in the aetiology of inflammatory bowel disease, and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine in 2011. He has published his research in a number of international peer reviewed medical journals. In addition, he has written five book chapters and given invited talks for the charity Crohn's and Colitis UK.

Dr Walker is an accredited endoscopist (for gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy & colonoscopy) with the Joint Advisory Group of GI Endoscopy (JAG). He is also a national endoscopy trainer for JAG, teaching on endoscopy training courses in the UK, with excellent validated feedback.

Dr Walker has a keen interest in teaching, he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the Royal College of Physicians/University College London and is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol .
