About me
Mr Alastair Henderson joined Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2010, as a consultant urological surgeon.
He was an undergraduate at Imperial College and St. Mary’s Hospital, London. He completed a PhD on prostate cancer. His postgraduate training was at Guy's Hospital, London as well as Frimley, Epsom, East Surrey and the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. This included visits to Seattle where Brachytherapy treatment was pioneered at the Seattle Prostate Institute and over two years at Guys Hospital learning robotic and laparoscopic surgery. He is the clinical lead for urology at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
Alastair's clinical practice includes all aspects of general urology. His special interests are in the treatment of kidney problems including kidney cancer using laparoscopy and minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer. He has particular experience in prostate brachytherapy, cryotherapy, laser prostatic surgery and robotic surgery for prostate cancer and in helping men with prostate cancer to decide on the right option for them.
He also provides a paediatric urology clinic and surgery service at Nuffield Tunbridge Wells and Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital.
Alastair is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and the European Association of Urologists. He is a reviewer for several scientific Journals which have included the Lancet, European Urology, Journal of Urology and the British Journal of Urology International.
Areas of interest
His practice includes all aspects of general urology for both men and women. Problems may include a show of blood or infection in the urine in men or women.
He has particular expertise in advanced diagnostic tests for prostate cancer including MRI and template prostate biopsy(MRI fusion). Treatments for prostate cancer include prostate brachytherapy, and in helping men to decide on the right option for them including active surveillance for men who don't need immediate treatment.
He offers state-of-the-art holmium laser prostatic surgery and Urolift for men with benign urinary problems which can improve the safety and effectiveness of prostate surgery compared with conventional techniques.
His interests also include the treatment of kidney problems including kidney cancer using laparoscopy and laser surgery for kidney stones.
He also provides a paediatric urology clinic and surgery service, circumcision and testicular problems.
