About me

Appointed as Orthopaedic Surgeon at Swindon in 1989, I have an extensive experience of Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery.

With increasing specialization over the years I now concentrate on Hand and upper limb surgery.

I have personally recorded outcomes of surgery for all operations, showing results as good, or better than, quoted in large studies, with low complication levels.

Common procedures that I undertake include Carpal tunnel decompressions; Dupuytren’s surgery (including needle fasciotomies); trigger finger, ganglion and arthritis surgery; arthroscopic surgery of the wrist, elbow and shoulder; finger joint replacements and fusions; tendon and microsurgical nerve repairs and fracture fixations; treatment of tennis and golfers elbows.

I believe that surgery should only be done when other, less risky, treatments have failed, and that recovery from hand surgery is dependant on not only excellent operative technique, but also correct post-operative management. At the Ridgeway hospital we have superb hand therapists, who can often treat patients and avoid the need for surgery, or provide support through the rehabilitation period, ensuring an optimum result following surgical treatment.

In addition most operations are now undertaken under local or regional anaesthetic. A general anaesthetic can almost always be avoided. Advanced techniques of local anaesthesia are much less painful during administration, and the range of operations that can be undertaken is far greater than previously.
