In the early part of my consultant post I was involved in the phase 2 research into the development of a new anti-glaucoma drug which is now marketed as Trusopt.
I was involved in the phase 2 study of a new drug to cotrol the side effects of diabetes by tablets but this was abandoned.
As one of the first consultants to treat short sightedness with laser, I was involved in some of the early refinements of treatment. I went on to treat patients with Boots at their laser clinics.

A one hour film about my Charity work in India shown on both HTV Wales and S4C won the Royal television society award for Best Regional Documentary in 1992.
I have had a film about laser surgery on Dr Fosters Casebook programme on BBC.
I speak English, Gujarati and can understand Hindi and Urdu. I can also communicate in Swahili and just about understand french - though i failed my GCSE french!
Courses offered to GPs
I lecture on the Red Eye, external eye, Ophthalmoscopy for GPs, Slit lamp examination and lectures on how to get the most out of an Ophthalmic examination.
My cataract surgery outcomes are excellent with a complication rate much lower than that accepted as the Norm by the College of Ophthalmologist. In the last year I have performed 577 cataracts and had 1 wound leak, no infections and no dropped lenses.
Of the laser capsulotomies, there has been no lens damage in any patient.
