About me

Damian White is an individual and group psychotherapist. He trained in Humanistic counselling at the University of Brighton before specialising as an Existential Psychotherapist at Regent's College, London and as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist at the University of Brighton. He is a registered member of both UKCP and BABCP.

Damian's interest in psychotherapy emerged from his experiences as an international humanitarian worker in Africa and his training for a Masters in Social Work. The latter included extensive individual and group work experience in a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. He then spent nine years working in an NHS clinical and counselling psychology unit and a specialist trauma unit providing both short and long term psychotherapy. Damian currently works in private practice in both London and Brighton where he also runs a Divorce Support Group.

In addition to his primary clinical work as a psychotherapist, Damian is a Senior Teaching Fellow on the government's postgraduate Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Programme at the University of Surrey where he trains people to offer frontline depression and anxiety services within the NHS primary care system. He also lecturers in individual and group psychotherapy at various universities in the South East.

Damian's work centres on a respect for each individual's unique ways of being in the world and a belief that people cannot be considered separately from their relationships with others and the contexts in which they exist. Such work does not provide answers or a magic cure for life's everyday mysteries and discontents, but rather an opportunity for people to clarify both their own distinctive ways of engaging with the world and the choices available to them.

Damian combines an existential and cognitive behavioural approach to enable individuals to face emerging life issues in both pragmatic and exploratory ways. He offers both short and longer term therapy.
