I am a Consultant Haematologist practicing in Surrey and London.
The Clinical Haematology Service at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital covers the investigation and management of anaemias, haematological malignancies (lymphomas, leukaemias, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes), myeloproliferative disorders, thrombophilia, bleeding disorders, haemochromatosis, red cell and platelet disorders.
I qualified as a doctor in Minsk, Belarus in 1996 and was awarded a PhD in Haematology/Biochemistry (St Petersburg, Russia) for research into the role of calprotectin (one of the proteins in white cells) in haematological conditions.
In 1997 I was very fortunate to be awarded the Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellowship to undertake research at the Leucocyte Adhesion Laboratory, Imperial Cancer Research Fund, London. I then decided to continue my medical career in Medicine/Haematology and have undergone trained in major UK cancer centres, such as the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton; Christie Hospital, Manchester; University Hospital of Wales and Velindre Hospital, Cardiff.
I have completed specialist training in Haematology at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Haematologist at Southend University Hospital. I have joined Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, which remains my main NHS base, in 2011. My sub-speciality areas include lymphoma and coagulation disorders, however, as a District General Hospital Haematologist I regularly see patients a wide variety of blood disorders. I maintain close links with my colleagues at London teaching hospitals, and would not hesitate to refer a patient to a national expert in London, if I think that the best available care can be provided elsewhere. At the same time I work closely with providers of home care including chemotherapy at home - an option that some patients find most suitable for their needs.
Areas of interest
Anaemia; General Haematology; Malignant Haematology; Diagnostic Haematology; Hodgkin's Lymphoma; Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma; Myeloma; Thrombosis; Bleeding disorders; Thrombophilia; Thrombocytopenia; Haemochromatosis; blood count abnormalities.

At the early stages of my career I have taken part in a variety of research projects, however I have now moved fully into clinical Haematology.
Haematology is a very rapidly developing subject, as we see several new drugs being developed and tested every year, therefore, in between seeing patients I invest my time in keeping up with the recent developments in Haematology, so that I can advise the best available treatment for a given condition. As a Co-investigator I take part in several clinical trials.
I come from a haematological family. Both my father and my brother are Haematologists, so Haematology for me is not just a vocation, but also a matter of family pride. Having worked in both research and medicine, I realised that looking after patients brings me more satisfaction than academia. This led me to a conscious choice of a District General Hospital career.
I enjoy playing tennis (whenever I can fit it in) and gardening (whenever my family commitments allow me).
