About me

Dr Gaya graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 1998 MB ChB with honours. He has received comprehensive training in acute and general medicine, gastroenterology, liver disease and therapeutic endoscopy. He has undertaken training periods in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. In 2007 he was awarded a Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), to visit the Gastroenterology Unit at Northwestern University, Chicago, USA. He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2008.
Dr Gaya has a major interest in diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy. He sees patients with peptic ulcer disease and reflux and performs wireless Bravo pH studies for the investigation of the latter. Furthermore, he is a certified colonoscopy trainer and undertakes therapeutic colonoscopy (polyp removal) as part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Dr Gaya is a member of the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Area Drug & Therapeutics Committtee (ADTC) and a gastroenterology advisor to the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC).
Dr Gaya's sub-specialist interest is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and he receives tertiary referrals for the management of complex cases. He set up the transition clinic for adolescents with IBD with colleagues at the Royal Hospital for Children. He was awarded an MD in 2018 for his research undertaken into a faecal biomarker in IBD. Dr Gaya is board member of the Scottish IBD charity C³ and the current secretary of the British Society of Gastroenterology IBD committee.
Dr Gaya is frequently instructed as an expert witness in medicolegal cases in the field of gastroenterology.
