About me

Mr Mushtaque Ishaque is one of only a handful of Orthopaedic surgeons who hold both The British Orthopaedic Association Sir Robert Jones Gold Medal and a Royal College of Surgeons of England Hunterian Professorship and is possibly the youngest ever Orthopaedic Surgeon to have achieved this.

Mr Ishaque is a recognized expert in the management of low back pain from degenerative disc disease and from degenerative spinal deformity. His main specialist subject is the degenerate or worn out disc resulting in back and or leg pain (sciatica). He is a leading specialist in the non-operative and operative management (microdiscectomy) of the “slipped disc, herniated disc and prolapsed disc” causing sciatica. Mr Ishaque routinely performs Microdiscectomy, and Lumbar Laminectomy for disc herniation depending on the size and location of the disc prolapse.

He has a higher postgraduate degree in the form of a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in the Genetics of Disc Degeneration from the highly prestigious Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation at The University of Nottingham.

He also a recognized specialist in the management of common spinal conditions such as Spinal Stenosis and Spondylolisthesis resulting in back pain and leg pain for which he can perform decompressive spinal surgery including lumbar laminectomy with an instrumented spinal stabilisation and fusion if required.

Despite Mr Ishaque being a full time private Consultant Spinal Surgeon, he always attempts to avoid surgery and adopts minimally invasive non surgical spinal techniques including spinal injections, rhizolysis and intradiscal implants.
