About me

Consultant Psychiatrist/Hon. Senior Lecturer Dr. Atakan is a general adult psychiatrist who particularly specializes in severe mental illnesses and the effects of cannabis use on mental health. She worked for many years as an intensive care consultant in Lambeth and from 2003 to 2007 was the lead consultant at the National Psychosis Unit, at The Maudsley & Bethlem Royal Hospitals, providing specialist care to people with treatment resistant conditions. She brings together the latest evidence based medical research with psychotherapeutic interventions for the treatment of mental illness. She also has extensive experience with depression and posttraumatic stress syndrome through her work with asylum seekers for 16 years.
