About me

I have worked with people with emotional difficulties for many years and I have a wide range of experience in the field of mental health and wellbeing. I trained in cognitive analytic psychotherapy at Guys Hospital. As well as my clinical psychotherapy practice in London I also have a practice in Reading. In addition I sit as a Specialist Lay Member of the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health). I was a Mental Health Act Commissioner at Broadmoor high secure hospital for ten years and I was on the staff of Samaritans for twenty years, fifteen of which was as Chief Executive. I was an active Samaritan volunteer for thirty-one years. I have been a member of many academic and government working groups in the field of mental health, with a particular emphasis on suicide prevention and self-harm. I was for five years a member of the Independent Advisory Panel to the Ministerial Council on Deaths in Custody. I also work as a life coach and I am President of the Mid-Thames Branch of the Chartered Management Institute and a member of the Disciplinary Authority of the Market Research Society. I was Vice Chair of Partnership for Children, an international charity dedicated to promoting emotional wellbeing for primary school age children. I am Patron of the Maytree Respite Centre, a charity in London that provides intensive short term residential care for suicidal people. I am qualified to administer the Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI).
