Ferdinand Serracino-Inglott was one of the first of a new generation of vascular surgeons to embrace minimally invasive techniques in the management of vascular disease. His NHS practice is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary. His main area of interest is the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques for treating aortic aneurysms and varicose veins. This has the benefits of improving outcome and a faster return to normal activities for the patient.
Mr Serracino-Inglott has a wide experience in the use of various treatments for aortic aneurysms, using the latest technology to provide the best outcome for his patients. He introduced the use of two new medical devices in the UK. He has a vast amount of experience with iliac bifurcated devices for the management of aorto-iliac aneurysms, as well as a large series of chimney stent-grafts to manage patients with complex aortic aneurysms that are not suitable for conventional surgery. He is regularly invited to talk on these subjects at international meetings.
Mr Serracino-Inglott introduced the procedure of remote endarterectomy using the EndoRe system by LeMaitre to the UK. He now runs regular workshops, training surgeons around the country in this novel technique – a minimally invasive way of restoring blood flow to the legs.
Mr Serracino-Inglott introduced the RFitt procedure to the Alexandra Hospital and the VNUS (now known as VeneFit) procedure to the Spire Manchester and Spire Regency Hospitals. This revolutionised the treatment of varicose veins at these hospitals, transforming it from an in-patient procedure under a general anaesthetic with a painful protracted recovery to a minimally invasive treatment performed under local anaesthetic, as an out-patient procedure followed by a rapid, painless recovery.
He is the only surgeon in Manchester to be offering the Clarivein treatment for varicose veins.
He sits on the editorial board of the Annals of Vascular Surgery and is the primary investigator for a number of national and international clinical trials.
