Mr McCloud trained in Sheffield and then underwent basic surgical training in Bristol and Shrewsbury before a period of research in Stoke on Trent. He then underwent higher surgical training in Leicestershire with a particular emphasis on colorectal surgery and laparoscopic surgery. He then won a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Colchester under Professor Roger Motson, which he completed in April 2007.
Mr McCloud specialises in general and colorectal surgery with a particular interest in the laparoscopic (keyhole) approach to colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and rectal prolapse, as well as laparoscopic and open approaches to abdominal hernias. He performs Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS) for large rectal polyps and early rectal cancer. He also specialises in anal disorders including piles, anal fissure, anal fistula and pilonidal sinus.
