He was appointed as a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist in 2004. Dr Austin was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008.

Dr Austin has extensive experience in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. These include gastro-oesophageal reflux, abdominal pain, cancer of the stomach and bowel, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and conditions of the liver and pancreas.

Dr Austin has a special interest in endoscopy - he has performed over ten thousand gastroscopies, colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies.
