About me

Dr Callaghan is a Consultant Rheumatologist who has been working in the NHS since 1995.

He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of all joint related problems (inflammatory and degenerative arthritis, joint injections), soft tissue problems (rotator cuff, tendinitis, bursitis), chronic pain (regional pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, soft tissue injections) and osteoporosis. He has a special clinical interest in connective tissue disease (SLE/lupus, Sjogren's syndrome, myositis, scleroderma) and vasculitis and runs a weekly NHS clinic specifically for these conditions. As well as providing a thorough clinical assessment he also recognises the important of excellent patient communication and focuses heavily on patient centred care.

Dr Callaghan sits on various advisory boards and his research background includes participation in various regional and national clinical trials. As an Honorary Clinical Teacher for the School of Medicine in Cardiff, he is actively involved in the medical school's undergraduate teaching program.

Any spare time he has is spent enjoying his family. He is also a keen tennis player and has played competitive tennis since his younger days.
