About me

Parwez is King James IV Professor in Ophthalmology at Southampton University Hospital and has over 25 years experience in Ophthalmology with 15 years sub-specialist experience in Cornea, Cataract & Ocular Surface Diseases.

Parwez clinical practice includes being a specialist Eye Surgeon in Cornea, Cataract & Ocular Surface Surgery including premium cataract surgery with expertise in extended focus (EDOF), Continous Transitional Focus & Toric intra-ocular lenses.

Parwez is also a leading specialist in corneal disorders such corneal infections, keratoconus, corneal neuropathy, corneal trauma, ocular surface diseases such blepharitis, dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction, ocular rosacea, herpetic keratitis. His patients from come from all around the UK & internationally.

Parwez has developed optimised surgical techniques for corneal transplant surgery, ocular surface reconstruction and anterior segment approaches for visual rehabilitation. These methods have been adopted by many of his corneal surgeons that he has trained as well as several other corneal surgeons throughout the world.

In addition, Parwez has developed an optimal method for Pterygium Surgery, which reduces recurrences, irritation and improves appearance.

Parwez is also Associate Editor of 'Eye' (scientific journal for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists) & Section Editor for Journal of Eucornea (Scientific Journal for European Society for Corneal Specialists- EuCornea)
He also leads an international research group investigating the optimal therapies for corneal disease and is a principle investigator for many new treatments for corneal disease.

In 2018 he was awarded the King James IV Professorship by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (the oldest surgical college in the world) in recognition of his pioneering work in corneal diseases/surgery.
