Jim qualified at Cambridge University and moved into a London training scheme. He completed his six year training programme in urology in the West London teaching hospitals and gained valuable experience in urological cancer and minimally invasive access during a laparoscopic fellowship year in Sydney, Australia.

He has always been active in both genetic and clinical research into urological cancer and was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship for his work on PAX genes in urological cancer.

Jim has produced national guidelines in consenting for urological surgery.

His interests include the management of prostate cancer including Da Vinci Robotic prostatectomy, Robotic Pyeloplasty, Robotic Partial Nephrectomy and Robotic cystectomy with intracorporeal ileal conduit.

He has a large experience in laparoscopic nephrectomy as well as the laser treatment of stones and also performs vasectomy reversal as well as covering the majority of adult general urology.

Teaching surgery has always been a passion for Jim and he is a National Proctor teaching Robotic urology around the country. He currently runs a Fellowship training scheme for robotic urology which was the first in the country to be recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in November 2012.
