Dr Bhandari was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenetrologist at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS trust in 2005. He received his training in advanced endoscopic diagnosis and resection at the National Cancer Hospital in Tokyo and he currently leads advanced endoscopy services at Portsmouth. He was appointed as a Professor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2012 and was awarded the Hopkins Endoscopy prize by the British Society of Gastroenterology in 2013 and has twice received the ASGE crystal award for his endoscopic work. He sits on to the BSG Endoscopy Committee and is a specialist advisor to NICE. He is a member of BSG, ESGE and ASGE. He has recently been appointed to lead the BSG Cancer group.
Dr Bhandari has authored and Co-authored several peer reviewed publications, Guidelines, Cochrane reviews and Book chapters. He has lectured at various National and International meetings

He is a core and the founder member of theBSG Endoscopy research Committee.
He has developed a very active endoscopic research program in Portsmouth. His research focus has been around the use of acetic acid in diagnosis of Barrett’s neoplasia, cost-effectiveness of endoscopic interventions, advanced endoscopic resections and endoscopic outcome predictors. Other areas of research include Bowel Preperations, Chemoprevention, Endoscopic Surveillance and optical diagnosis.
Would still love to play cricket and hockey but can only watch as endoscopy has become my new hobby!
