About me

Tibor Kovacs is a European Board certified lead cancer surgeon with an international reputation in Surgical Oncology.
Mr Kovacs received his training in breast cancer surgery and surgical oncology at the National Institute of Oncology from Budapest, followed by further training in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic mentorship at South Manchester University Hospitals and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital Breast Units.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng.) since 2006 and on the Specialist Register (GMC) from 2005, being a Consultant for more than 14 years.
Between 2005 and 2010, as a Consultant and Lead Clinician at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales, he developed and established a new breast reconstructive service and promoted innovative techniques in breast cancer management (radioguided surgery, implant and dermal flap based breast reconstruction).
In these years he achieved excellent clinical outcomes and high patient satisfaction by establishing the Sentinel Node Biopsy technique and offering immediate and delayed reconstructive options
(implant based and LD flap reconstructions) for his patients.
Mr Kovacs is the President-elect for the European Society of Surgical Oncology, a regular Examiner in Surgical Oncology and Breast Subspecialty for the European Union of Medical Specialists, and Director and Faculty on European Breast Cancer and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Courses. He is the Associate Editor for Breast Cancer of the European Journal of Surgical Oncology.
Currently Mr Kovacs is a Consultant breast and oncoplastic (reconstructive) surgeon at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, providing care both for patients with symptomatic breast problems and screen detected breast malignancies. Mr Kovacs is member of the Guy's BRCA multidisciplinary team and is specialised in risk reduction surgery and reconstruction.
His ethos and goal is to offer an individually tailored care for his patients, that matches the needs and personal choice of women presenting with breast related problems.
Mr Kovacs believes in the evidence-based approach to breast cancer management, focusing on principles of surgical oncology and oncoplastic surgery, where cosmetics are same as important as the efficient treatment of disease.
In his private practice Mr Kovacs is offering specialist consultations for women or men with breast symptoms, provides advice and treatment for all breast problems as well as a routine breast screening service, risk reduction.
Patients are seen in a "One-Stop" Breast Clinic, can have an initial consultation, clinical examination, imaging investigations (mammogram, ultrasound) and needle biopsy at the same time, with the majority of investigation results ready on the same day.
