About me

Hello. I am a consultant medical oncologist with a special interest melanoma and lung cancers.

I also see patients with mesothelioma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and cancer of unknown primary.

I am an expert in innovative treatment of cancer.

Because I am highly specialised, I consult patients from across the North of England and the Midlands, and occasionally further afield.

I am a national leader in precision oncology, immunotherapy and shared decision making.

Precision oncology is the personalisation of cancer treatment based upon genetic differences between cancers.

Immunotherapy harnesses the body’s own natural defences to fight cancer.

Shared decision making helps patients to become more actively involved in decisions made about their own care.

My aim is to bring early access for my patients to the latest and most effective drug treatments for cancer to allow them to live longer and to improve the quality of their life.

I qualified in medicine back in 1992 at Cambridge University, have a PhD in cancer medicine, and have worked in some of the most prestigious cancer centres in the UK over the last 25 years.

I represent cancer patients' interests on many national groups. For example I am the Vice Chair of Trustees for the British Thoracic Oncology Group, a charity dedicated to research and education for patients affected by lung cancer.

I advise a number of charities and am active in political lobbying on behalf of cancer patients' intersets.
