Professor Peter J Milla is Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the UCLInstitute of Child Health, University College London.I am a Private Consultant Paediatrician and Specialist Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, UCL Institute for Child Health and the BUPA Cromwell Hospital. I am passionate about Paediatrics and Gastroenterology and have a career long track record of improving the care of children suffering gastrointestinal conditions based on first class clinical care and use of advances in Medicine and research. I have a strong passion for Paediatrics and Gastroenterology with a mission to improve the care of children suffering gastrointestinal conditions based on excellent clinical care and effective translation of advances in Medicine and research. He underwent his paediatric training at the Royal London Hospital St Bartholomew's and Great Ormond Street. Together with the late Professor John Harries he set up the Department of Gastroenterology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and was Director of the Department from 1983-2004. I was President of the European Society for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (2002 – 2005) and Chairman of the United European Gastroenterology Federation(2003-2004).I have been Treasurer of the United European Gastroenterology Federation (2005-2011. On retiring from the NHS I took up the position of Clinical Director to the International and Private Patient Unit at Gt. Ormond St. Hospital for Children. I set-up one of the first infant feeding disorder clinics in the UK. My principal, clinical interests in general paediatrics are problems of infancy such as colic, excessive crying and discomfort;general concerns about feeding, growth and development; Gastro-oesophageal reflux and vomiting;Food Allergy (Gastrointestinal Allergy); Coeliac disease; Abdominal pain; Constipation; Diarrhoea; Specialist Paediatric Gastroenterology including; Severe (intractable, slow-transit) constipation; inflammatory bowel disease; Dysphagia; irritable bowel syndrome.
His principal research interests have been in nutrition, ,intestinal failure, food allergy and motility disorders in children. He has written two textbooks and over 200 original papers. His hobbies are sailing and gardening.
