About me

I have practised as a Speech & Language Therapist since qualifying in 1984 from University College London. My career first took me to work in Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge working both in paediatrics and geriatrics; I then went abroad on a three year contract to work for the MOD providing SLT for the armed forces personnel posted out in Germany but also civilian dependents. On returning to the UK I worked for Swindon Hospitals before joining the Basingstoke team where I was the Manager of the SLT service for 3 years before starting my family. After a 3 year break I returned to practice first working for the Loddon School a specialist school serving children with a diagnosis of autism and challenging/restrictive behaviour before moving to work for the charity ICAN setting up preschool services for children with language impairment across the UK; I was also at this time a clinical tutor at the Central School of Speech & Drama;in 1999 I was recruited to head up the SLT team at Treloars College, another specialist college but focused on providing education and therapy for students 16 years+ with physical disability; since 2001 I have worked independently and in the course of that time have set up a service that provides SLT using Skype.

Areas of interest

Paediatric; language disorder and delay; phonological disorder and delay; developmental verbal dyspraxia; autism; Autism/ASD; cleft palate; hearing impairment; can provide SLT using online systems such as Skype where it is logistically sensible or is useful because of the child's specific communication difficulty.
