Miss Poppy (Kalliope) Valassiadou, MD, PhD, is a senior Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon in the Breast Care Centre – University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust with > 25 years experience in breast cancer surgery and >14 years experience at Consultant Surgeon level, with particular interest in preventative breast surgery, surgical performance indicators in breast screening, and individualising cancer treatment to include patient choice and patient information. As a surgeon, she has been dealing with breast risk reducing surgery since 2004 and has operated on >100 high risk women over the years. Poppy has been involved in strategic change and implementing new surgical techniques in breast surgery UHL at an early stage as a consultant and subsequently as Head of Service in Breast Surgery and Cancer Lead of the Breast Multidisciplinary Team in UHL 2006 – 2012. She has been a Surgical Professional Clinical Advisor for Public Health England Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS) in the East Midlands 2011 - 2017, participating and developing surgical performance indicators in the East Midlands QA, which now form established national surgical performance indicators in Breast Screening SQAS, Public Health England.
