About me
I am a visiting Professor of BCU, an Interventional Endoscopist and Consultant Physician at Dudley Group of Hospitals. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. I am a member of the BSG and ESGE.
My main interests include advanced endoscopy procedures - endoscopic treatment of Zenker (pharyngeal pouch) , endoscopic resection of complex colon polyps, endoscopic full thickness resection of early colon cancer, under water colonoscopy and polypectomy, small bowel intervention and endoscopic bariatric treatment such as gastric balloon. I also have an interest in Colorectal cancer, anaemia, Peptic ulcer disease, coeliac disease, Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and colitis), irritable bowel syndrome and dietary intolerances.
Innovative procedures I have introduced in UK
1- I introduced endoscopic treatment of Zenker’s in the United Kingdom and led training countrywide. I have published widely on this procedure. A presentation on this technique won the best prize at the BSG 2013 in Glasgow. I with two other units introduced an endoscopic full thickness resection in UK and a presentation at the BSG, 2016 was awarded the best prize. We were finalist in HSJ 2018 awards.
2- I also introduced underwater colonoscopy in the UK in 2014 and I am one of the core lead members in an global expert group.
3- I also introduced endoscopic treatment of acid reflux (GERDX)- endoscopic fundoplication, all done via flexible endoscopic with no scars.
I co-authored and was a proof editor to the reference Atlas of Digestive Endoscopic Resection, a project of Fudan University. I was awarded visiting Professor of Research Institute of Fudan University in September 2015.
I acted as an advisor for NICE interventional procedures and acted as part of National clinical advisors to NCEPD: GI bleed study. I have published widely and I am an act reviewer to GIE, Surgical Endoscopy and BSJ. I also act as an associate editor to GHBB and TJG.
I have authored/co-authored over 100 peer reviewed publications and textbook chapters. I am regularly invited to perform live endoscopy demonstrations and endoscopy training. I have lectured in national and international meetings. Recently I introduced an endoscopic treatment for Zenker’s Diverticulum in Japan.
I have been an endoscopy trainer and National bowel cancer screener since 2013. I have carried out over 10,000 colonoscopies in my career.
