- Vascular surgery
I did my basic surgical training in the Mersey Region for about 5 years. During this time, I had heard of a lovely place called Wirral, but never visited during this time! I trained for 4 years in Vascular Surgery in Belfast, one of the busiest units in the UK.
Soon after joining Wirral as a Consultant Surgeon, I introduced Laser treatment for varicose veins, making this modern minimally invasive treatment of veins available locally. I have now embraced another new mimally invasive treatment for veins called Clarivein. Hence there are many options to effectively manage varicose veins, including surgery.
I explain the treatment options, with the aid of a diagram, using simple language, to my patients.
My two further areas of interest are (1) limb-saving surgery and (2) vascular access surgery for patients with kidney failure who require haemodialysis. My work has been presented in national and international meetings.
I am now the Clinical Director of the South Mersey Arterial Centre (SMArt) formed in 2014, following centralisation of the major in-patient Vascular Surgical Services.
I am a keen woodworker and have converted my garage into a workshop. My interests in photography and cricket have taken a back-seat as there is only 24 hours in day!. I cycle regularly.
