About me

I graduated from Cambridge University in 1992. My Cardiology training was split between the Wessex training scheme and the Royal Brompton Hospital, London. I obtained my higher degree (MD) from Imperial College, London. I was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist to Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust in 2004.
I am the local lead for heart failure and I have developed and lead a comprehensive, integrated heart failure service across primary & secondary care (population 650,000). I have also helped set up a local complex pacing (defibrillator/biventricular pacing) tertiary centre service.
I was elected to the British Society Heart Failure (key national body) as councillor (2009-11), treasurer (2011-13) and am currently Deputy Chair. I have been Programme Director of the Society's annual scientific sessions in 2010 & 2013 (around 500 delegates).
I maintain a major commitment to education at a National and International level. For example, since 2009 I have been involved in the implementation of a successful cardiology knowledge based examination for cardiology trainees in the UK through the British Cardiovascular Society. I also write and review questions for European Society Cardiology.
I am also co-founder and organiser of annual UK Cardio-renal Forum (conference with ~150 delegates).
