About me

Dr Cairn is a respiratory physician with special interests in interstitial lung disease, respiratory infection such as bronchiectasis, lung cancer, asthma, COPD and obstructive sleep apnoea. However his practice covers all aspects of respiratory medicine. In particular, he can provide expertise in the investigation and management of cough and breathlessness.

He completed undergraduate training at The London Hospital Medical College and postgraduate training in North West Thames, including at the Royal Brompton, Harefield and Charing Cross Hospitals. He completed research, culminating in an MD, at Harefield and the Royal Brompton Hospitals on Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome following lung transplantation.

His current clinical governance and teaching interests include interstitial lung disease, the management of pneumonia and oxygen prescribing and he is a member of the West Herts Hospitals’ antibiotics and medical gas committees. His NHS practice is based at Harefield and the West Hertfordshire group of hospitals, where he runs general respiratory medical clinics and subspecialist clinics in interstitial lung disease and lung cancer. His private practice is based at Spire Harpenden Hospital, Spire Bushey Hospital, Harefield Hospital and BMI Bishops Wood Hospital.
