I am a Consultant Cardiologist in Birmingham UK. I specialise in diagnostic cardiac imaging and in the management of valvular heart disease. My practice is in central Birmingham, based at the University Hospital (Queen Elizabeth) which is a renowned NHS tertiary referral cardiac treatment centre located in Edgbaston. My clinical interest is in the diagnosis and management of patients with valvular heart disease. I have a particular expertise in echocardiography (with emphasis on state-of-the-art techniques including tissue Doppler, contrast and stress imaging), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), and nuclear cardiology (SPECT).
Areas of interest
Valvular heart disease; ischaemic heart disease; inherited cardiomyopathy; cardiac imaging; Echocardiography; Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); Nuclear cardiology
Current NHS consultant posts held
University Hospital Birmingham,
Queen Elizabeth Hospital,
My research is clinically orientated and focusses on the diagnostic yield of echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in the clinical arena. My recent research has revealed changes in cardiac function detected on echo and CMR in mild, early renal dysfunction which may in future be used to target preventative therapy to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients at high risk
