About me
I am an ENT surgeon based in the North East of England. I graduated from University College London in 1991 and went on to complete a diploma in tropical medicine and conducted research in infectious diseases for the UK Medical Research Council in West Africa. I also hold a diploma in mental health and have specialised in ENT since 1995. In addition to this clinical work I have been instrumental in training junior ENT doctors in the region.
In the North East I have developed a specialist swallow service introducing innovative new techniques using cutting-edge laser technology. I have a particular interest in chronic ear disease, tinnitus and dizziness and continues his research in these areas. I contributed as a principal investigator in three National Institute for health research (NIHR) trials in chronic rhino sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and Tinnitus.
I was Training Programme Director in the North East from 2008-2011. During my tenure I guided the Northern region to the top of the National league tables in ENT surgical training. I was then surgical training committee chairman from 2011-2013. I have also been an examiner for The Royal College of Surgeons examination board and have lectured throughout the UK and internationally. I enjoy a very productive and friendly relationship with my colleagues and patients and was nominated for the 2015 Sunderland Echo Hospital doctor of the year award.
