About me

Prof Mayet studied undergraduate medicine at the University of Dundee and completed a research fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at St Mary’s Hospital and Imperial College. Following this he completed his postgraduate cardiology training in North West London at St Mary's and Royal Brompton Hospitals.
During this time he undertook an MBA at Edinburgh Business School.

He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St Mary's Hospital and Imperial College in 2000 and was awarded a Chair in Cardiology in recognition of his outstanding research and training programmes in 2011.

He was appointed Chief of Service of Cardiology in 2008 at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust when St Mary's Hospital merged with Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals and successfully merged the cardiology departments to form the West London Cardiology Centre of Excellence at the Hammersmith Hospital.

He was promoted to Head up the Surgery, Cardiovascular and Cancer Division at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2013. Prof Mayet heads the Surgery, Cardiovascular and Cancer clinical, educational and research programmes at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The specialty portfolio includes Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Major Trauma, Anaesthetics, Critical Care, Orthopaedics, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Breast Surgery, Ophthalmology, Clinical Haematology and Oncology with a clinical budget of approximately £200million.

Prof Mayet continues to run a well regarded clinical cardiology practice at Imperial College NHS Trust. He has a longstanding interest in sports cardiology and is cardiologist to several football teams, including Arsenal and England.

With his colleagues Dr Iqbal Malik and Professor Nick Peters he runs the London Cardiovascular Clinic based at 66 Harley Street, offering a comprehensive private cardiac assessment and treatment service in central London.
