I qualified in Birmingham where I trained in general medicine before moving to Manchester to train in oncology at The Christie. Since being appointed as a consultant at The Christie in 1997 I have specialised in treating head and neck cancer . This includes complex Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and the use of chemotherapy both adjuvant and palliative.
I also treat skin cancer, both melanoma and non-melanoma with radiotherapy and run the vismodegib clinic for the systemic treatment of basal cell cancer for Greater Manchester.
I am chairman of the Christie Drug and Therapeutics Committee and previously chair of the head and neck clinical subgroup for the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Cancer Research Network and council member for the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (BAHNO).
