CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST
Professor John Somauroo is Consultant Cardiologist and Sports Cardiologist at the Countess of Chester and Liverpool Heart and Chest NHS Trust Hospitals. He has specialist interest in inherited cardiac diseases/cardiomyopathies and differentiation from athletic heart, specialist echocardiography including transoesophageal, dobutamine and exercise echocardiography for investigation of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and intracardiac shunts. He also has regular permanent pacemaker implantation lists.

SPORTS CARDIOLOGIST AND CARDIOMYOPATHY SPECIALIST
Professor John Somauroo has Sports Cardiology clinics for amateur and professional athletes with potential cardiac disease at Countess of Chester and Liverpool Heart and Chest NHS Trust Hospitals. He accepts NHS referrals from anywhere in UK for rapid diagnosis and treatment. He is on the England Football Association Cardiac Screening Panel and is Cardiologist to Liverpool Football Club and Blackburn Rovers FC. He has cardiac screened and investigated senior and academy players for potential cardiac disease from numerous football club throughout the UK including Manchester City FC and Rangers FC. He was also on the Rugby Union Cardiac Screening panel prior to the Rugby World Cup 2013.
​He has additional hypertrophic cardiomyopathy clinics at both hospitals with availability of full diagnostic investigations including genetics assessment with counsellor and treatments including ICD implantation and septal ablation.

​PROFESSORSHIPS
Prof John Somauroo was awarded an Honorary Professorship to the University of Chester in 2010 and to Liverpool John Moores University in 2014 in recognition for his ongoing lecturing and research programmes in Cardiovascular, Sports & Exercise Medicine at the Universities.
He was awarded his full Professorial Chair in Sports Cardiology in 2016 at the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES), Liverpool John Moores University. He continues to research physiological versus pathological changes in athletes’ hearts and differentiation from cardiac disease including cardiomyopathies. He has a large research database screening athletes from many sports including football, ultra-endurance runners both in UK and internationally in San Francisco, USA, Nigerian Olympic team, British Cycling team, boxers, British aikido martial art team, ice-hockey and rugby league players. He is also currently on the advisory panels working with Saudi Football Association and Hong Kong College of Cardiology setting up international cardiac screening programmes. He lectures nationally and internationally on cardiac screening and the differentiation of physiological adaptation of athletes' hearts and the differentiation from cardiac disease.
