About me

Clare Bailey, MD FRCP FRCOphth, has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Bristol Eye Hospital since 2001, and specialises in cataract surgery and retinal disorders.

Her medical training was at Cambridge and Oxford universities. She undertook training in general medicine prior to specialising in ophthalmology, obtaining the MRCP, and subsequently the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). Her ophthalmology training was in Bristol, St Thomas' hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

She undertook an MD thesis as well as a sub-speciality fellowship in the field of retinal disorders. She has been the lead of the Clinical Research Unit at Bristol Eye Hospital since 2012, has published very widely in the field of retinal and macular disorders, and regularly lectures, both nationally and internationally. She is an honorary senior clinical tutor at the University of Bristol, and has previously won the Macula Society 'Best Practitioner of the Year' award.

Miss Bailey is a very experienced cataract surgeon, and has trained many ophthalmologists in cataract surgery since 2001. She is Section Editor of the ophthalmic journal EYE, has been a trustee of the ophthalmology charity NERC for several years, and now sits on their scientific committee.
