I have been an NHS consultant at Ipswich Hospital for over 20 years and have led the service through a number of ground-breaking developments in the field of radiotherapy. I have trained other hospitals in the technology of IMRT. I have or had had a number of management and leadership responsibilities over the past decade including Head of Service, Trust Cancer Lead and Divisional Clinical Director. Additionally I have responsibilities at regional and national level including East of England Clinical Senate Representative for the Radiotherapy CRG, clinical lead for cancer for the Suffolk and NE Essex STP/shadow ICS and joint medical director for the East of England Cancer Alliance. I have previously chaired the Anglia (now (Eastern) Research Executive Group overseeing the formulation and delivery of the Anglia Cancer Research strategy. I was also joint clinical lead for the Suffolk/Norfolk EAHSN hub for cancer and played a key role in developing a DVD to promote cancer research for patients across the region.

Phase three clinical trials. I am the PI for a number of clinical trials relevant to my areas of specialist expertise (head and neck; prostate) some of which have been practice-changing eg PARSPORT (parotid sparing IMRT in head and neck cancer); RT01 (dose escalation in prostate cancer); CHHiP (shortened radiotherapy in curative treatment of prostate cancer). I am currently recruiting to two major clinical trials in prostate cancer: PATCH and PIVOTAL-BOOST the latter which through the RTTQA processes has given assurances to target volume delineation.
