Dr Charles Grimley graduated from Manchester University in 1988. After junior medical posts in Lancashire he moved to the West Midlands to complete his training in gastroenterology. He was appointed as a consultant in East Lancashire in 1999.
His research interests while training included the study of gastric acidity and the effect of Helicobacter pylori in cancers of the oesophagus and stomach.
He did additional training to become a bowel cancer colonoscopy screener in 2008 and has an interest in advanced polypectomy in the colon. He provides regular screening lists for the Lancashire bowel cancer screening programme. His interest in advanced endoscopy has developed further and he is now involved with the treatment of pre-malignant lesions and early cancers in the lower oesophagus and other significant lesions in the upper GI tract. He is endoscopy training and audit lead for his NHS trust and is passionate about the quality of endoscopy.
He has been the medical advisor to the local Crohn’s and Colitis UK group since its inauguration in 2007.
