I am a practising Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. My specialist interests were previously prenatal diagnosis and currently gynaecological minimal access surgery, which includes endometriosis surgery. I have had a significant leadership role in leading, developing and establishing a region-wide referral centre for hysteroscopic and gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. The future of NHS services will be on the development of ambulatory care services which are associated with reduced costs. I have set-up a nationally and now internationally recognised ambulatory care 'One-stop' 'See & Treat' outpatient local anaesthetic hysteroscopy clinic which completes the diagnosis and treatment of patients with abnormal uterine bleeding within a one-stop outpatient visit. This has translated traditional inpatient surgery to the outpatient ambulatory setting e.g. treatment of fibroids, polyps, endometrial ablation and sterilisation. This has led to a significant reduction in inpatient daycase general anaesthetic procedures. I have also developed evidence that supports a national guideline on the management of women presenting with post-menopausal bleeding.
Areas of interest
Endometriosis; Menstrual disorders (menorrhagia); Fibroids; Minimal access surgery; Ambulatory 'one-stop' hysteroscopy clinics; Endometrial ablations; Endometrial hyperplasia
