Consultant Gastroenterologist, Sheffield since 1998. Clinical lead for Nutrition service. Developed Small Bowel and Capsule Endoscopy Service, now one of the largest in Europe. Previous responsibilities include: Royal College of Physicians examiner, South Yorks Strategic Health Authority lead for the National Endoscopy Project, member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Small Bowel & Nutrition Committee. Currently chair for the UK Capsule Endoscopy Users' Group and representative for the group on the BSG Endoscopy Committee. Director of the European Capsule Endoscopy Training Course. Member of the European Faculty for Capsule Endoscopy Training.

Winner, Medipex Innovation Award for Secondary Care: Capsule Endoscopy, a remote tool to investigate the whole GI tract. 2013. Runner up, Health Services Journal Hall of Fame award, 2015.
Over 100 publications and three book chapters. Co-editor for Handbook of Capsule Endoscopy, 2014. Senior author for national capsule endoscopy guidelines (2006) and member of European guidelines committee (2013). Advised and appeared in television productions including Richard and Judy (channel 4), Don't do this at home (BBC3 pilot), Bingers (ITV), Full on Food (with Stefan Gates, BBC2), Death due to Excess (SkyTV), Infestation (SkyTV), The Truth about Food (with Fiona Bruce, BBC2), Guts: the Strange and Mysterious World of the Human Stomach (with Michael Moseley, BBC4)
