I trained as a house officer at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (professorial unit) then moved to Kettering General Hospital where I was a senior house officer in general medicine, chest medicine and diabetes endocrinology. I then progressed to registrar in diabetes endocrinology at the Royal Free Hospital London and the North Middlesex Hospital London. Senior registrar general medicine, care of the elderly and diabetes at Birmingham University Hospitals. I was appointed consultant physician at BHRUT 1998 and a Consultant in Diabetes Endocrinolgy in 2002.
