About me

I studied medicine at Guy’s Hospital in London, graduating with the MBBS qualification and a BSc in Neuroscience. I undertook my specialist training in the East Midlands during which I acquired separate Masters and PHd degrees in Orthopaedic Sciences. I completed the prestigious National Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics in Sheffield Children’s Hospital prior to starting as a Consultant in the University Hospitals of Leicester. I am currently Clinical lead for Children’s Orthopaedics. I have several publications in leading orthopaedic journals, have presented at national and international conferences, instruct on national courses as well as being awarded several research prizes. I frequently contribute instructional content to help international peers with clinical cases via online forums.

My clinical practice is focused on the care of children with orthopaedic conditions. I have a specific interest in improving the care and quality of life of children born with limb deformity. My practice encompasses:

 Developmental hips dysplasia – I diagnose and treat hip dysplasia in babies based on ultrasound assessment. I undertake single stage hip reconstruction in the treatment of late presenting hip dislocation in children of walking age and see referrals from across the East Midlands. I have extensive experience of treating dysplasia (hip shallowness) in children under the age of 8 years.

 Painful feet in children – I use a step wise treatment approach to painful flat feet and arched feet encompassing physiotherapy, orthotics and surgery. I practice “a la carte” foot surgery to correct significant symptomatic deformity. I have extensive experience of treating children with recurrent or residual deformity following treatment of their clubfeet.

 Limb deformity and shortening – I undertake image based deformity analysis to determine lower limb alignment problems causing pain. Children are treated with guided growth to correct angular leg deformities whilst growing. I undertake circular frame treatment for complex deformities and limb lengthening.

 Hip disorders in Cerebral Palsy – I undertake hip reconstruction in children with cerebral palsy to improve their sitting posture, spine alignment, comfort and assist the caregiver in washing and dressing the child.

 Walking disorders in Cerebral Palsy – I sit on the regional Gait Laboratory multi disciplinary team meeting to review instrumented analysis utilising the latest technology to diagnose gait disorders. I undertake guided single event multi level surgery (SEMLS) to optimize the walking ability of children with cerebral palsy.
