About me

Dr Haben Ghezai is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked with individuals across the life span and with a range of common and severe mental health difficulties. She has worked in the mental health for over 10 years and has developed specialist expertise in working with complex trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, psychosis and a range of complex presentations. Her main therapeutic modalities include Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), CBT, Narrative Therapy and Systemic psycho-therapy. She has a keen interest in working with trauma (including race related trauma) and with issues of social injustice. She is passionate about working with individuals from different racial, cultural and religious backgrounds and supporting cultural and religious forms of healing that are relevant to the individual.

Dr Ghezai is passionate about taking a person centred and creative approach, which allows her to meet clients where they are at and support them to build on their existing skills and strengths whilst on their journey of healing and recovery. She is keen to ensure that individuals are well supported and feel comfortable and safe when discussing difficult issues. She has described her ability to build a safe client/therapy relationship as a key strength within her practice.

Dr Ghezai has worked across a various setting including NHS and Offender Care Services which have allowed her to build her expertise working with individuals within Psychosis Services, the Criminal Justice System and suffer from complex mental health difficulties. She has further worked within the Local Authority supporting foster families, Looked After Children (LAC) and social workers, and within a leading Human Rights organisation called Freedom from Torture, where she is the currently a senior Clinical Psychologist and supports survivors of torture experiencing PTSD and complex trauma. Her various roles have included, individual and group therapy, teaching, supervising and managing staff.

In addition to this, she also works in private practice and is a committee member of a charity called NEW-UK Reg. number 09680700, a specialist grass roots charity set up to support East-African women. She has run teaching and mental health workshops raising awareness of mental health challenges and exploring issues of stigma within the community.
Dr Ghezai is passionate about sharing skills from psychological theories in a way that is accessible to everyone, in which she has facilitated various presentations, workshops, and podcasts focusing on self-care for medical professionals, local communities, mental health awareness in places of worship and anti-racism workshops to non-profit and government organisations. Dr Ghezai also serves on advisory committees for a Clinical Psychology doctoral program focusing on decolonising the curriculum and has also co-authored a book chapter highlighting the importance of incorporating race and faith as part of therapeutic practice.
