Mr Kakkar has been on the Specialist Register (Certificate of Completion of Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics) since September 2013 and is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust specialising in all elective upper limb surgery and general trauma.
He completed prestigious fellowships at Wrightington and Paris, France enabling him to learn all the skills and latest advances in Hand/Wrist surgery and upper limb disorders.
His main interests lie in reconstructive surgery of the upper limb, and in the treatment of degenerative and sports injuries. Approximately two-thirds of his work is hand and wrist surgery with the rest being shoulder and elbow surgery.
He operates on the full range of commonly seen elective hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder cases as well as more complex procedures such as wrist ligament reconstruction, wrist arthroscopy and joint replacement in the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder.
He is a keen teacher and is on the faculty for the ChM- Trauma & Orthopaedics course run by Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In addition, he is an examiner for the junior surgeons(MRCS) and on the FRCS (Orth) Upper limb and Basic Sciences revision course at Wrightington Hospital. He has written scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and contributed to chapters in Postgraduate Orthopaedic books. He also sits on the interview faculty panel for the ST3 entry to train Orthopaedic surgeons and on the medical students selection panel at the University of Lancaster.
He is the Foundation Programme Director for his trust looking after the Foundation Year 2 doctors.

Wrist and Hand surgery: All disorders and surgery relating to Hand & wrist including arthroscopy of wrist and open procedures of the wrist and hand like carpal tunnel surgery, excision of ganglion, trigger finger, de Quervain’s, Dupuytren’s disease including Xiapex (collagenase) injections, Rheumatoid hand and wrist surgery, Joint replacements for thumbs and finger joints.
Shoulder surgery: Arthroscopic/ Open shoulder surgery, Sports injuries, Shoulder Instablity, ACJ problems
Elbow surgery: tennis elbow, golfer’selbow, cubital/ulnar nerve release, ligament/tendon repair.
