- Accredited Cataract Full Pathway provider
I offer the Full Pathway cataract surgery package for Bupa customers ...more
I offer Bupa customers standard cataract surgery on the Full Pathway package option at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital.
This package includes your appointments before and after surgery, as well as your surgery and mono-focal lenses. It means you won’t use up your out-patient benefit or receive any additional bills from your surgeon (or anaesthetist, if you need one) for eligible treatment.
Please call the Bupa Eye Care team to find out more about and to pre-authorise your treatment on 0345 600 7267.
- Oculoplastic surgery
I perform over 400 small incision phaco-emulsification (modern small incision) cataract surgeries annually with over 99% as a day case. My cataract outcomes are as follows; over the past four years (1479 consecutive cases), 96% of my patients saw 6/12 or better postoperatively (comparative figure is 91% from the national cataract audit). My capsular rupture rate, the most commonly sited measurement of surgical dexterity over the past four years is 0.7% (1.9% national cataract audit). I co-lead the oculoplastic (eyelid and socket) service for Lothian.
Audit of surgical outcomes forms the backbone of revalidation, I was the inaugural audit secretary for the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society.
I have a keen interest in teaching both for postgraduates; Optometrists and GPs and until recently I ran the undergraduate ophthalmology course at Edinburgh University.
