I qualified in 1985 from the University of Manchester. Following an MD in basic cellular electrophysiology I developed an interest in clinical electrophysiology (cardiac arrhythmias).
I trained in Newcastle upon Tyne and in the United States, at the Universities of Virginia and Maryland. I was appointed consultant at St Thomas' Hospital London in 2001.
