About me
Knee specialist and internationally-acclaimed consultant orthopaedic surgeon.
Neil trained in orthopaedic surgery at Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre – one of the biggest and best orthopaedic hospitals in the UK.
He also trained in Australia with Dr Leo Pinczewski and Dr Mervyn Cross, and in the USA with Dr Richard Steadman – three of the world’s most eminent knee surgeons.
Neil performs all types of knee surgery including ligament reconstruction, keyhole surgery, half and full knee replacement as well as knee cap joint replacement.
He regularly provides second opinions for patients with difficult problems and people who need revision surgery. He has a special interest in complex and multiple knee ligament injuries and has taught surgery on national medical courses.
Ever an active sportsman, Neil’s passion for sport helps him understand the needs of injured athletes he treats. He’s a keen cyclist and has completed many big events such as stages of the Tour de France and the Étape du Tour.
He’s also led outdoor pursuits for groups of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, one of these was a three month expedition to Patagonia, in the southern most section of the Andes – the biggest lesson of the trip – “all people need is the right environment and great leadership – with that, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things”.
Why Neil specialised on knees – “having injured my own knees (dislocated patella on left, ligament injury on right) I know how critical they are to us. Knee surgery is a very constructive branch of surgery with huge opportunities to push forward science and make a huge difference to people’s lives. It allows me to treat patients aged 8 to 80 including elite athletes and professional sportspeople”.
Neil’s other love is surfing, and he’s been fortunate enough to travel the World in search of great waves – yes, it’s a photo of him surfing on the homepage!
