General information

My aim is to provide a 'safe' and confidential space where you can explore any difficulties you are experiencing or have experienced in the past. In my counselling I will listen to you and work with you to find the best ways to understand and resolve your difficulties. Through counselling you can develop a sense of acceptance of who you are and come to terms with life events.

In this world there are many different types of experiences that are difficult for us to cope with. Most of the time we just get on with life, but sometimes we are just stopped in our tracks by an event that we do not have the resources to sort it out. At this time counselling is really helpful as it gives us the opportunity to be heard, taken seriously, understood and not to be judged in any way.

Couple Counselling

I undertook a post graduate certificate in couple counselling at the Metanoia Centre in London and have completed a further Cognitive Behavioural Course on Couple Counselling by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies

Relationship distress is common in the UK with now 40% of marriages ending in divorce and more than a third of couples experiencing relationship distress.

In relationships people often get locked in repetitive patterns which seem difficult to break, through counselling you can begin to understand the patterns, develop an awareness of how to recognise them and try more effective ways of communicating with one another.

Here is a BBC link to show the impact of relationship distress to children

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36373299

I can offer a structured number of sessions to help unravel the patterns couples get locked into and help to improve how to communicate within a relationship and to improve those repetitive conversations that keep happening.

Individual Counselling

I can offer counselling to adults, and trainee counsellors. Through counselling I aim to give you renewed energy and coping strategies to get on with your life in a more productive way.

I have a wealth of experience of working with anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement and relationship issues. I am able to work with you for either a fixed number of sessions or open ended.

Adolescents and children

Research indicates that mental health difficulties start in early life and that 50 per cent of lifetime mental illness starts by the age of 14. Statistically a mere 30 per cent receive any sort of intervention which means the remaining 70 per cent struggle with their emotional turmoil to adulthood and face a lifetime of depression and anxiety. By helping children and adolescents having thoughtful and reflective conversations about their life experiences can help them to overcome their difficulties and experience a more positive outlook on life.

I have over 30 years experience of working with children and adolescents in secondary schools, the NHS and private practice. When working with this age group they often do not have the vocabulary to express their feelings so I utilise the arts; scenarios and music to help them to talk about what is happening to them.
