After completing his orthopaedic training in Belfast. Aidan undertook fellowships in Gillette Children's Hospital in St Paul and the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis. He also did a fellowship in the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. Returning to take up his Consultant Post in Belfast in 1997.

He remains very active in clinical research and audit with particular interests in Perthes disease and Developmental Dysplasia of Hip.
Richmond Prize for best Research of the American Academy of Cerebral palsy and Developmental Medicine.
